In order to highlight the importance of preserving bees and protecting biodiversity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nelt Group with its principal Mondelēz International is launching a new big project called “Plant a tree, save a bee”.
By establishing cooperation with the Beekeepers Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Union of Beekeepers Associations of Republic of Srpska, the campaign initiators plan to provide 10,000 saplings of linden, chestnut, wild cherry, Hungarian acacia, lavender and white ash. These honey plants will be used to set up honey gardens throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will contribute to the preservation of vital bees, pollinating more than 80% of plants on which our nutrition depends.
” This is the second initiative we are conducting with our principal, Mondelez International, at the level of the Nelt Group. Both the afforestation which we undertook in Montenegro, and the protection of bees that we support, are aimed at preserving the complete biodiversity. With projects such as these, we confirm our strategic commitment to strengthening of partnerships, sustainable and responsible business and creating positive changes for the communities in which we operate,” said Goran Cerovina, Executive Director of Nelt Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This project is also supported by activities in stores throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, and all customers can contribute to this initiative, until May 15th, 2024, by purchasing Milka products.
“The protection of biodiversity is at the heart of our “Harmony” project, which we are implementing at the European level with the intention that the wheat we use for our biscuits is grown sustainably. We are glad that with this project we will directly contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and the protection of bees and other pollinators, which is vital for healthy ecosystems, food safety and sustainable agriculture at the local level”, said Stevan Vujosevic, Country Manager for Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Southern Adria Markets at Mondelēz International, proudly pointing out that this is a continuation of previous successful activities focused on environmental protection and contribution to the local community which Mondelēz International has organized in Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro.
The Beekeepers Associations express their extreme satisfaction and note that such activities and partnerships are the best sign of concern for local communities and environmental protection.
Due to the great importance of bees for natural ecosystems and the food we consume, as part of this socially responsible project, expert workshops of educational nature shall be held for Association members on the importance of bees for agriculture and environment, as well as the importance of preserving biodiversity. The installation of honey gardens is planned for the end of May, on World Bee Day.
